NEW YORK vs. LISBOA

NEW YORK x LISBON Find the differences. A copy of the engraving of Lisbon, made by George Braun in 1598, began to be sold in 1672, by a guy called Jollain, as if it were a portrait of New York (New Amsterdam). The most impressive thing is that the architect Rem Koolhaas, in his book New York delirious from 1978, still talks about the engraving as if it were really a portrait of New York of the 17th century. It was the French historian Sylvie Deswarte-Rosa who wrote about this subject for the time on her "Le Portugal et le Mediterranée", in 2002. It's interesting to see how two cities, separated by a century and an ocean, merge into a single image. Today this to places are so far away but then both were so exotic and probably because of that they were so close in the people's mind..

In the late 17th century a guy called Jollain copied the image of 16th century's Lisbon and published it as if it was New York.
